National Trade Union Confederation "Cartel ALFA" was founded in 1990 with the purpose of establishing a real and authentic representation of the Romanian workers.

NTUC "Cartel ALFA" played a decisive role in the transformation of the Romanian trade union movement by educating experienced militants which can freely express their opinions and defend the interests of the workers.

An independent organization
The confederation is totally independent from any political or administrative groups and is open to anyone who wishes to join. There are currently 38 professional federations affiliated to the confederation from various fields of activity, both from the public and private sectors. In addition, CNS "Cartel ALFA" coordinates the activity of 40 interprofessional, regional trade unions.

A clear mission
The fundamental objective of the NTUC "Cartel ALFA" is to strengthen the romanian democracy and to defend and protect the interests of the workers and the social justice. The confederation constantly militates for job creation, improving the life and working conditions of its members, for a proper wage policy and for stability and economic growth.

CNS "Cartel ALFA" ‘s major objectives are:

• Bargain and conclude the collective labour agreement at national level.
• Influence the legislative process and the economic framework.
• Promote the social partnership, the dialogue and solidarity.
• Organize and support the internal process participation and training of militants.
• Assist and represent the trade unions and their members.

In order to accomplish these objectives, the Confederation is active at various levels:

Social Dialogue
From a national point of view, NTUC "Cartel ALFA" takes part in different tripartite consultative structures, such as The Economic and Social Council (ESC), the ministries’ dialogue commissions, different other tripartite institutions. Thus, NTUC “Cartel ALFA” contributes to the drawing of balanced economic and social policies, having an influence on the decision making process.

Information
NTUC “Cartel ALFA” informs constantly the public opinion and its own members about public issues, expressing its position on different decisions made by authorities, decisions that might affect the interests of Romanian workers.

Participation
NTUC Cartel ALFA militates for a society in which citizens take part actively in the social processes. In order to stand for its point of views, NTUC "Cartel ALFA" may call its members to take action, through protest marches, demonstrations and pickets.
